Stormhaven
"I spent some time studying and painting in the Stormhaven countryside -- a charming realm of rolling hills, lush flood plains, rocky outcrops, and copses of ancient woodland. The place would be idyllic were it not for the perpetual unsettled gloom, occasional crackles of thunder, and bolts of Kynareth’s rage that arc across the skies."
―Flaccus Terentius
Stormhaven is the south-central region of High Rock. The city of Wayrest, the home of the king of Wayrest, is located here. Stormhaven is a temperate region of sparse woodlands and farmland, with the weather changing spasmodically between clear skies and heavy rain. The west marks the start of the hillside trail to Glenumbra, while the mountains north guards the southern end of the mountain pass to Rivenspire and Wrothgar. The city of Wayrest dominates the central region of Menevia. The Gavaudon region in eastern Stormhaven is the last holding, beyond which lies the bridge to Bangkorai and Evermore.
History
Stormhaven has often been a land of conflict at the crossroads of different worlds. Between the Direnni settlers, the Nedic natives, then the Imperial Allesians and the Bretons, then invasions from Reachmen and Orcs tribes, not to mention the many Breton civil wars. It is said that the hills of Alcaire even saw the birth of Tiber Septim, altho he never returned there himself even as his armies did.
Stormhaven Present Day
The Warp in the West, also called by scholars the Second Numidium Effect, or by people outside of High Rock “The Miracle of Peace”, was a strange phenomenon, misunderstood by most people.
For those on the outside, it is as if the political situation in High Rock changed over the course of 2 days, with most Kingdoms disappearing and new ones forming overnight, and new rulers in charge.
For those on the inside, it was a complicated life where Time itself ceased to flow normally, past and future merged together, events held true yesterday had in fact never happened tomorrow. Armies marched when peace were signed. Years became seconds, days were generations. There was no way to track time as contradicting events kept happening constantly.
The result of multiple time paradoxes fixing themselves in the Dragon Break eventually ended with time resuming its normal flow, and the people still present to see it could only pick up the pieces of their broken past as they observed the new situation: Of the many free lords of High Rock and Hammerfell, only four Kingdoms remained: Sentinel, Wayrest, Daggerfall, and Orsinium. All vassals of the Emperor of Cyrodiil.
Yet, as the Present asserts itself once more, so do the rules of the land: Nobles resume their plotting, a new Legion marches in the streets. Mages come for their researches. Bandits and beasts prowl the forests, brave adventurers come in search of riches, and cultists pray to their gods for power.
What will become of this land is yet to be seen.
