Hagraven

Slot Availability: Inquire on Discord

Hagravens are creatures of corruption and decay that appear as a horrific cross between an old woman and a bird. They were once witches, but have undergone a ritual, trading in their humanity for access to powerful magic, and the transformations they undergo infuse their entire beings with some element of that power.

Hagravens stand out for their unparalleled cunning, depravity, and sheer repulsiveness. When unable to secure their desires through cunning, they resort to savagery. Typically hostile toward outsiders, they still possess the ability to communicate. Equally perilous in close combat or when launching spells from a distance, they are infamous for their nauseating stench.

Often accompanying Reachmen clans, hagravens are revered as Matriarchs and leaders, while others hide in secluded groves or lairs with fellow witches and hags in the wilderness. Despite this reverence, some clans actively detest and fear these creatures.

Lore & Description

Hagravens embody corruption and decay, appearing as a nightmarish fusion of an elderly woman and a bird. These entities were once witches who willingly traded their humanity for potent magic through a ritual. This transformation infuses their entire existence with this newfound power. Infamously savage, they consume living beings, displaying a particular fondness for fresh eyeballs.

These creatures epitomize cunning, depravity, and repulsiveness, resorting to savagery if deception fails. Their hostility towards outsiders is notorious, yet they retain the ability to communicate. Equally formidable up close or casting spells from a distance, they emit a foul stench. Their ability to morph into a flock of crows enables them to assail foes from myriad directions simultaneously.

Often seen among Reachmen clans, some revere hagravens as leaders, while others lurk in hidden groves with witches and hags. However, some clans loathe and fear them. Notably, the Glenmoril Witches of Skyrim were associated with hagravens.

In Daedric lore, Nocturnal is connected to hags and hagravens. The Crow Mother, a hagraven Daedra Lord, claims kinship with Nocturnal and leads the Blackfeather Court.

These creatures' claws and feathers hold alchemical value. Hagraven claw vessels purportedly intensify alcohol effects. Quills made from their feathers, such as the renowned Black Quill, were enchanted to ensure that any story written with it would be unforgettable.

The transformation to a Hagraven can be reversed, potentially through divine intervention. Kyne intervened once, cleansing and pardoning Keeper Ormi, a former hagraven, after her son's prayer revealed his survival.
